From giving marginalised voices a platform to leading his initiative 'Head:ON' Stuart campaigns for greater humanity in the arts where difference is celebrated.

Stuart uses his lived experience to craft work that is honest in its detail to enable audiences to relate to his work drawing on their own lived experiences. His authentic voice often explores subjects that are taboo, giving marginalised voices a safe public space to be heard. Which has led to him evolving new models of engagement; enabling artists, communities and key organisations to engage in creative, brave, and safe ways to share these discoveries.

A significant part of this work is Head:ON which aims to encourage social change within the dance sector through:

  • Holding a safe space for artists to share and debate respectfully;
  • Creating a series of films celebrating difference whilst highlighting the emotional labour imposed by marginalisation;
  • Community focused practice with specific specialism in working with vulnerable adults and people with mental health needs, homelessness, HIV, Chemsex and addiction;
  • Developing training to enable artists, companies and training establishments to understand and implement what excellent practice is for them;
  • Hosting ‘think tank’ events to bring together arts professionals to reflect, debate and pledge action around mental health and emotional wellbeing in the dance industry.
