“Stuart is energetic and brave in the studio. He challenged the students in a way that brought out the best in them, perhaps more than they expected they had to offer.”

Hannah Kidd – Rambert School
Pre-Vocational Course & Young People’s Teacher,

Over the years Stuart has taught all over the UK in a variety of higher education settings for Performing Arts and Dance courses at Universities and Conservatoires.

Stuart is passionate about passing on skills and working to develop participants at this stage of their growth through challenging and encouragement. Stuart’s work brings a natural reflective quality that participants connect well with.

Stuart’s practice combines and invites participants into deep exploration through a cerebral and physical exploration using improvisation, contact improvisation, somatics, storytelling, character and voice.

Ultimately Stuart’s work focuses on challenging students to search for themselves and push their performance skills as well as their technique, emotional and sensory skills. Stuart’s work unites participants with themselves and their bodies as well as building a fun and challenging atmosphere for the group.

The final layer to the work is Stuart’s developing and deepening of safety in the studio, activating aspects and components of Human Givens psychotherapy to take risk safely in the studio and on stage.

“Bath Spa dancers have been really inspired by Stuart and his work, particularly his emotionally honest approach to the creative process. He is a generous and open artist who is eager to share his skills and expertise with new dance makers. His commitment to creating safe spaces in which we can explore our most intimate human experiences has been wonderful to experience.”

“Stuart is a very talented teacher and works exceptionally well with young people. He develops rapport quickly and is engaging and inclusive whilst also considering how to offer highly creative tasks that provide appropriate levels of challenge. He is thoughtful in planning and developing ideas which are tailored to the individuals in the group and takes a considered approach when adapting or modifying tasks. Stuart’s choreographic work is incredibly strong with young people, both highly physical and well-structured and always engaging.”
